Will there be more Prophetica?
If there is enough interest in this first book, I have ideas for more stories set in this world. I don’t want to make it about money, but I’ve got kids to feed. If this book manages to pay for itself, you can count on more. To that end, I intend to be as transparent as possible about the financials of this book, both for my own edification and to help out other aspiring comic creators.
Why the Widescreen format?
Prophetica is intended for reading on digital devices. While tablets and phones can be rotated and zoomed, computer monitors cannot. Reading a comic designed for the widescreen layout of your computer monitor is a much better experience than reading a standard vertically-oriented page that you have to scroll. Plus, while planning this book with artist Tim Mayer, he thought taking on a landscape page layout would be an interesting creative challenge.
I downloaded the book, how do I read it?
The digital download is available in .pdf, .cbz, and .cbr formats. There are numerous app for PC, Mac, iOS, and Android to view these files. Personally, my favorite digital comic reading experience is via
Chunky Comic Reader for iPad. Just search in your devices app store, there are many alternatives!
Can I get a print copy?
Prophetica was designed as a digital product first and foremost. There are no current plans for a print run. If it gains enough of a following to warrant several more chapters, we may combine them all into a sexy hardcover. Something to put on your shelf and pass down to the grand-kids.
If I can just wait and read all the pages online like a webcomic, why would I pay for the download?
Not having to wait? Wanting a better reading experience? I don’t know. I’m not your orbitofrontal cortex. Plus, you can just get the digital download for free, so it’s up to you how you want your eyeballs to get a hit of this.
Wait, so I can get the download for free, too?
You surely can. Just type $0.00 on the
buy page and away you go.
So, why would anyone pay for it?
This whole project has been an experiment for me. I put a lot of my own time and hard work into the writing, lettering, and website creation. I put a lot of my own money into the art, editing, logo design, and website hosting. If you think it was all worth it, and you’d like to support more projects with all the TLC that this one has received, I would greatly appreciate any support you’d care to offer.
What if I want to try before I buy?
Sounds great! Just type $0.00 on the
buy page, download the book for free, then come back and re-buy it for the amount you thought it was worth.
Do I have to have a Paypal account?
No! Paypal handles the payment transactions, but you can also just pay with a debit or credit card without making a Paypal account. Just click the “Pay with a debit or credit card, or PayPal Credit” button on the payment page!
You should put this on Kickstarter. Why didn't you put it on Kickstarter?
I did a Kickstarter for my adventure game, Resonance, and it was a great experience. But I wanted to make sure that the artists and I could work at our own paces to make sure the project was completed to the high-standards I hold myself to. I didn’t want feel like I needed to rush to deliver a hastily-finished product to a pack of hungry backers. I also didn’t want the artists to sink their time into something that may eventually not be funded. So, instead I decided to invest my own money into the project and pay all artists up front.
